THIRTY FIVE YEAR OLD PEOPLE BENEFITTING FROM YOUTHLIVELY HOOD FUND IN NAMISINDWA DISTRICT
Sub County Community Development Officers in newly
created Namisindwa District are being accused of disbursing funds under
government’s Youth Livelihood Programme to groups whose members are above 35
years.
Paul Wangoto
the youth chairperson for Buwasunguyi parish in Namabya Sub County accuses the
Sub County Community Development officers of asking for bribes from groups so
as to benefit from the Youth funds.
Wangoto alleges
that the Communtiy Development Officers usually charge between 20,000 to 30,000
shillings per group member. With many youth unable to succumb to the demands by
CDOs, the programme is now supporting people above 35 years of age and able to
pay the bribes.
Levi
Watuwa a youth from Bupoto Sub County claims many of the
beneficiaries this financial year do not fall under the youth bracket. Watuwa
says this makes the programme lose its intended objective.
Joseph Weyusa
Masafu the Namisindwa district development officer has urged the youth to
identify the Sub County officials involved in the mess.
Manafwa and
Namisindwa Districts were allocated more than 200 million shillings for Youth
Livelihood activities this financial year.
