Bamasaaba have been urged to embrace food barns (Birara)for better food security.

Eddy Kamoli the Country Coordinator for United Development Scheme (UDS) says it is absurd that Bugisu, which was a known food basket, is struggling with many people surviving on one meal per day.

Kamoli says that with limited land in Bugisu, new farming methods must be embraced so as to boost productivity. He advises that with the shortage of land and food, Bamasaaba should also regulate the number of children they are producing.

James Shilaku Mbale Resident District Commissioner says government is ready to support innovative ideas of food storage. Shilaku urges Bamasaba to desist from selling off all their food after harvest.

UDS is a community based organization that aims to fight ignorance, poverty and hunger through health care support and income generating initiatives
